တစ္ေခတ္တစ္ခါက သုံးခဲ႔ဖူးတဲ႔ အဂၤလိပ္စာ အသုံးအနႈန္းေတြဟာ အခ်ိန္ေရြ႕ေလ်ာမႈနဲ႔အတူ ေခတ္မမွီေတာ့တဲ႔၊ မသုံးသင့္ေတာ႔တဲ႔ စာလုံးေတြရွိပါတယ္။ အဲလို ေခတ္နဲ႔ မေလ်ာ္ညီပဲ ဆက္လက္သုံးစြဲေလ႔ရွိတဲ႔ စာလုံးအခ်ိဳ႕ထဲမွာ sexist language လဲပါတတ္ပါတယ္။ ဒါေၾကာင့္ sex-role stereotyping ကို ေရွာင္ရမယ္။

7 PROVERBS AND THEIR MEANINGS

A "proverb" is a short, traditional saying in general use. It usually expresses some obvious truth or familiar experience.

Here are some proverbs that are well known in English, though some of them come from other languages. The meanings given are generally accepted meanings, though other interpretations may be possible.

အခုေျပာမယ့္ စကားပံုေတြမွာ သိျပီးသားေတြလည္းပါမွာပါ။ တျခားအဓိပၸာယ္နဲ႔လည္း ယူလို႔ရပါေသးတယ္တဲ့။

1. "Don't cross your bridges before you come to them."

မုန္႔ဆီေၾကာ္က ဘယ္ေနမွန္းမသိ၊ ႏႈတ္ခမ္းနာနဲ႔ တည့္ပါ့မလား ဆိုတဲ့အဓိပၸာယ္ပါ။ မူရင္းစကာပံုမွာက တံတားဆီေတာင္မေရာက္ေသးဘဲ ကူးဖို႔ရာ ျပင္မေနနဲ႔လို႔ဆိုထားပါတယ္။
Don't worry about problems before they arrive.

2. "Soon learnt, soon forgotten."

ခပ္ေပါ့ေပါ့သေဘာထားရင္ မတတ္ဘူး။ စာေမးပြဲနီးမွ တစ္ပြဲတိုးက်က္တာ အဓိပၸာယ္ကို အက်အနမသိေတာ့ ေမ့တယ္ေပါ့။ စာက်က္ရင္ ရလြယ္တယ္၊ ေမ့လြယ္တယ္။

3. "Even a worm will turn."

မဟုတ္တာလုပ္ရင္ ဘယ္သူမွ ေခါင္းငံု႔မခံဘူး။ မူရင္းစကားပံုမွာ တင္စားတာက ေျခလက္မရွိတဲ့ တီေကာင္ေတာင္ ျပန္ခံပက္လိမ့္မယ္ဆိုတာပါ။
Everybody will revolt if driven too far.
* worm (noun) = တီေကာင္/small thin animal with soft body and no legs
* turn (verb) = ျပန္ပက္၊ ငံု႔မခံ/revolt, fight back

4. "It was the last straw that broke the camel's back."

အရာရာမွာ အတိုင္းအတာရွိတယ္။ အတိုင္းအတာတစ္ခုကို ေက်ာ္လာရင္ လက္မခံႏိုင္ဘူးလို႔ ဆိုလိုတာပါ။ မူရင္းစကားပံုမွာ ကုလားအုတ္ကို ခါးက်ိဳးေစတာ ယုတ္ဆြအစံုး ေကာက္ရိုးရဲ့ ပေယာဂေတာင္မကင္းဘူး လို႔ဆိုထားပါတယ္။ ေလးလြန္းလို႔ ခါးက်ိဳးသြားတာ ေကာက္ရိုးေပါ့တယ္ဆိုေပမယ့္ သူလည္းပဲ တရားခံလို႔ ေျပာခ်င္တာ။ ဘူးေလးရာ ဖရံုဆင့္ ဆိုတာမ်ိဳးေပါ့။
There is a limit to everything.
* straw (noun) = ေကာက္ရိုး/dried stalk of grain (like grass)
* camel (noun) = ကုလားအုတ္/large long-necked animal in the desert

5. "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach."

အခ်က္အျပဳတ္ေကာင္းတဲ့ မိန္းမကို စြဲတယ္တဲ့။ ေကာင္းေကာင္းမြန္မြန္ျပဳစု၊ ခ်က္ျပဳတ္ေကြ်းေမြးျခင္းအားျဖင့္ ေယာက်ၤားျဖစ္သူကို ထိန္းထားႏိုင္တယ္လို႔ေျပာခ်င္တာ။ ေန႔စဥ္ခ်က္ေကြ်းရမယ္လို႔ မေတာင္းဆိုၾကေပမယ့္ ကိုယ့္မိန္းမ အခ်က္အျပဳတ္ေကာင္းတယ္ဆိုရင္ ေယာက်ၤားတိုင္း ဂုဏ္ယူခ်င္ၾကတာပဲေလ။

* way (noun) = နည္းလမ္း၊ ခ်ဥ္းကပ္ရာလမ္း/path; route

6. "Where there's a will there's a way."

ဒါကေတာ့ သိၾကပါတယ္..လိုလွ်င္ၾကဆ နည္းလမ္းရ လို႔ဆိုတာပါ။
If we are determined to do something, we can do it.
* will (noun) = ဆႏၵ/strong determination, desire.
* way (noun) = နည္းလမ္း/path, method

7. "The best advice is found on the pillow."

နဖူးေပၚလက္တင္ျပီးစဥ္းစား ဆိုတဲ့ ျမန္မာစကားလိုပါပဲ။ အိပ္ယာေပၚလွဲေနမွ နဖူးေပၚလက္တင္ႏိုင္တာေလ။ မတ္တပ္ၾကီး တင္လို႔မွ မရတာ။ ဦးေႏွာက္ကို အနားေပးျပီး စဥ္းစားယူလို႔ေျပာတာ။ မူရင္စကားပံုမွာေတာ့ အေကာင္းဆံုးအၾကံဥာဏ္ေတြဟာ ေခါင္းအံုးေပၚမွာ ေနရင္းရတာလို႔ ဆိုလိုပါတယ္။
We may find the answer to a problem after sleeping.
* advice (noun) = အၾကံဥာဏ္/recommendation as to what to do
* pillow (noun) = ေခါင္းအံုး/cushion to rest your head on sleeping
